Handler Development & Skill Enhancement with Fred Helfers (in-person) – hosted by NACSW/K9NW co-founder Jill Marie O’Brien – Chatsworth, CA

Fred’s training sessions will focus on enhancing the handler’s skills by bridging foundational techniques with advanced handling for effective problem solving in Nose/Scent Work training and trialing. Handlers will learn how to better communicate with their dogs, recognize and strengthen key skills, and address specific challenges that arise during training. Handling is 50% of the equation and Fred will help handlers finesse their role with the role of their dog for successful search performance.
Saturday will focus on handling Interiors (element adjustment as needed).
• Reviewing the foundation of applying your dog during Interior searches.
• Building odor obedience foundational drills.
• Utilizing foundational exercises to gain consistency when working your canine.
• Understanding your role as a handler in problem solving.
• Managing the search area in Interior exercises.
Sunday is emphasizing Containers & Exteriors (element adjustment as needed).
• Reviewing the foundation of applying your dog during Container and Exterior searches.
• Building odor obedience foundational drills.
• Utilizing foundational exercises to gain consistency when working your canine.
• Understanding your role as a handler in problem solving.
• Managing the search area in container and exterior exercises.
